Behind the 4G-ball

Finally!

I FINALLY got around to contacting my political representatives about something that’s been driving me nuts.  Spending billions of our tax dollars to lay fiber optic cable to provide citizens with DSL when 4G would be cheaper and faster!

Web of lies

Unfortunately, I’ve been having trouble with my Internet connection – AGAIN.  I’ve contacted my new 4G provider, and their customer service representatives have been exceedingly polite and helpful – but unable to resolve the issue.  They suspected the tower needed servicing, and had it scheduled for end of August.

Sadly, the problem was getting worse, not better.  I finally broke down and checked into my other option – cable Internet.  Now, don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the idea of cable Internet, phone and TV.  Cable Internet is super fast and cable TV obviously vastly expands your viewing options.  There’s just one issue with cable – Greeley Center Cable doesn’t service Chicago.  I have ONE provider option – the EVIL HORRIBLE MONOPOLY cable company of Chicago.

I mentioned before about the problems I’ve been having with my Internet connection.  More specifically, with my phone/DSL lines.  So, I needed to look at other options. I decided to try a new 4G wireless service.  Apparently, someone placed a voodoo curse on me, or my house’s ghosts don’t care for Internet.  I don’t know.

Clogged innertubes

I’ve used the same Internet service provider (ISP) about 15 years now.  My service was fantastic, until the last year or two.  Then it became a nightmare of losing service every few days, for hours on end.  Of course, this never seems to happen when I’m not home or sleeping – it happens when I need to submit my biweekly column, have arranged to work from home, or need to make a CRITICAL Facebook status update.

I’ve made frequent calls to my ISP to complain.  They’ve said I needed a new phone cord (got that), to move my modem closer to the phone jack (did that), get a new modem (puchased it), use a new wireless router (bought one), etc., until they finally admitted a service technician would need to come to my home.
