I’ve been in major “stash busting” mode – crocheting and knitting like a fiend, making a dent in the vast amount of yarn stored in “Yarnia”, a.k.a. “Yarntopia”… a room in my basement filled with bins of yarn.

I finished a crocheted cardigan in June:

It’s been over six months since I updated my blog for my knit/crochet projects.  I admit, I haven’t been doing as much knitting or crocheting.  Since I’ve been working out and busy at work, I haven’t had as much time or energy to focus on making things out of string.  However, I have made more than the personal trainer and “mini-me” I’ve posted about.  Most were made prior to the end of the year.

Yarny games

Spoiler Alert!  Rob, Renee, Brett, and Kirsten – if you don’t want your baby blanket surprises ruined, do not read on!

It’s time for those famous summer international games!  In London!  Personally, I did not watch any of the coverage, due to my annoyance with the U.S. Committee.  I mean, protecting your copyright, I understand that – but there’s no need to be downright RUDE!  (Plus, really, we have to cease and desist from using adorable images of Ravelry’s mascot “Bob” in a hand-knit hat?  That’s sad.) (Information on the controversy here and here and lots of other places.) Anyway, while the Ravelry games (our play-along with yarn) had to be renamed to the “Ravellenics” to avoid lawsuit (since we’re such a horrible threat to the U.S.O.C’s money-making ventures), we still HAD the games and I participated for the first time.

Gift-o-rama

I made LOTS of holiday gifts this year!  I’d love to say it was because I was full of cheer and good will and whatnot… but honestly, a large motivation was the need to feel I was doing SOMETHING productive while laying around home sick and recovering from surgery.  So, I made a huge “gift list” and made something for everyone on it – as well as a few items I intend to gift or donate to charity.

Most of my gifts were “kitchen sets” consisting of a potholder and a tawashi (a cotton puff great for washing dishes, cleaning, etc.)

Much ado about nothing

Another weekend has flown by!  They always go by so fast.  Saturday morning is always filled with promise.  Two whole days ahead – I can surely accomplish wonders in 48 hours!

I woke early Saturday, ready to start tackling my many projects. However, I was quickly distracted… and landed up spending the morning attempting to make a tape measure cover that looked like a frog.  I’m not sure it really looked like a frog – but it was green, and had something resembling a large eyeball and red tongue.

My favorite day of the year has come and gone – the day we go to the Michigan Fiber Festival! Once again, my friend Amy was kind enough to get us both tickets through the Windy City Knitting Guild. Tickets include the bus ride to and from the festival (leaving at 7:00 a.m. sharp), a lunch, and snacks.

Last year many people wondered why I went, given I do not knit or spin (though I do crochet) and I’m allergic to wool, alpaca, angora, and all the other yarns most go to purchase. No one questioned my presence this year. While I can’t actually KNIT, I do have knitting needles and I’ve even picked them up!

Summer yarn-iness

Updating the blog with recent crocheted creations always seems to get away from me.  I see I haven’t updated in two months!  Finished objects since then:
