I’ve been in major “stash busting” mode – crocheting and knitting like a fiend, making a dent in the vast amount of yarn stored in “Yarnia”, a.k.a. “Yarntopia”… a room in my basement filled with bins of yarn.

I finished a crocheted cardigan in June:

Fugly custom yarn dolls

I’ve had a number of people ask about the fugly custom yarn dolls – so here goes.

Rumpelmintz is gone.  My friend Barb used to say “Rumpelmintz is too stubborn to die.”  I guess she was right. In the end, we did have to give her a little help.  It was time, and she needed to be told it was okay to let go.

Years ago, I wrote about some of my adventures with my little old neighbor man. I haven’t seen him in years, as I changed which route I take walking to the train station.  However, there’s no shortage of little old men in my neighborhood.

I think my “relationship” with Little Old Neighbor Man II started almost a year ago.  It started innocently enough.  I was walking home from work one night and saw a little old man watering his flowers.  I waved hello, and told him that his flowers were lovely.

As seems par for the course in my world, the story does not end there.

‘Roid rage

Back in March, I mentioned I had started a second duel with midnightyell – the 6’5″ much-younger-than-me man from Texas.  This one was a “free-for-all”, the most Fitocracy points wins – every activity counts.  At that time, I held a somewhat comfortable lead of 9,223 to 7,743.  Things were going well, and I admit I was a tad smug knowing how many points I could rack up using barbell complexes.  Things appeared to be going my way this time around, unlike the push-up duel fiasco.

Then something very bad happened.  Well, bad for me.  Great for midnightyell.  Midnightyell apparently discovered strongman exercises like tire flipping and sled pushing.  These things are worth a LOT of points.  Also, I cannot do these things as I am little and not very strong.  I was in trouble.

Behaving rashly

I’ve decided I better write this while I can.  If it’s possible to die from whining, I may do so.  My ex-boyfriend says if anyone can die from whining, I can.  It’s rather comforting he has faith in me.

It all started innocently enough, if that’s how it started.  Despite the number of hours I’ve spent watching educational shows like “House”, “The Walking Dead”, etc., I’m not a medical professional.  However, assuming it may be related, it started with what I thought was “dry, itchy skin” maybe six months ago.  My forehead and ears were itchy, dry, and flaky. I chalked it up to my visits to the gym and the perspiration I put out there, and switched to a softer cloth for sweat-dabbing.

Things didn’t improve, they got worse.  I decided maybe it was my new facial cleanser, and went back to my old one.  I added a thicker moisturizing cream at night.

I continued to blissfully ignore any signs of something more insidious, until a couple of weeks ago. This was when that “dry flaky skin” became more obviously HIVES.  Raised nasty bumps near my eyes and on my hands.  Given my vast medical knowledge garnered from movies like “Contagion” and “Outbreak”, I knew this was NOT RIGHT.  I made an appointment with my doctor.

Training a trainer

I had my first session with my new personal trainer, Nick, this week. It was okay. He has a lot to learn.

We started by just sitting down and getting to know each other a little. I told him my whiny-ness level was at a 7 tonight (on a scale 1 to 10).  He seemed surprised I start my sessions this way.  I find it’s good to give my trainer an idea what they are in for before I land up throwing a tantrum in the middle of the gym, flailing my arms and whining “this is HARD!!!!”.  They should plan accordingly.

Grueling dueling

I’ve mentioned my past push-up duel with MidnightYell on Fitocracy, as well as my current pull-up/chin-up duel with ImpishFae.  Well, the situation has grown.  You see, FairLillith commented that she wished someone would challenge HER to a pull-up duel, so she’d be encouraged to do pull-ups.  So, both ImpishFae and I challenged her – and now we have a sort of three-way pull-up/chin-up duel going on through April 9.  Honestly, it’s not really fair since ImpishFae was only logging her unassisted pull-ups… and I couldn’t even DO unassisted pull-ups, so I was using about 50 pounds of assistance.

Knot enough fiber

It’s been over six months since I updated my blog for my knit/crochet projects.  I admit, I haven’t been doing as much knitting or crocheting.  Since I’ve been working out and busy at work, I haven’t had as much time or energy to focus on making things out of string.  However, I have made more than the personal trainer and “mini-me” I’ve posted about.  Most were made prior to the end of the year.

Touche!

I had another personal training session with Ron on Saturday.  That leaves two sessions remaining before he moves out of state.  Sadness.
