I grew up in a small town – a REALLY small town. Greeley, Nebraska has less than 600 people. I went home Memorial Day weekend to visit the parents and “change cars”. (My dad found a great deal on a used car – and agreed to sell my old car for me. Thanks DAD!!!)
A photo montage:
- The town’s “hotel” (no, I am not kidding)
- Main street – oh my gosh, so much traffic! Holiday weekend craziness!
- This WAS Dad’s shop before he “retired”. It still says “Dick’s auto service” on one sign, though it is no longer Dick’s.
- One of the town’s bars
- One of the town’s bars… “now serving whiskey”. Um, you’re a BAR, didn’t you ALWAYS serve whiskey? I’m confused about this
- The courthouse
- Still the courthouse – Dad said I needed more than one photo of it
- Gas station – gas more expensive than along the tollway – but WAY cheaper than Chicago (which was $4.69 per gallon)
- Still the gas station
- Dad’s business
- The other town bar
- Cemetery – Dad said I needed to take a photo of the cemetery
- Dad’s “ranch”
- Still Dad’s “ranch”
- “Frankengrain” (as my friend FeistyMuse calls it) growing at my dad’s “ranch” (which is not a ranch, but a farm)
- Inside the building my dad built on his “ranch”
- Dad with a tractor he drove all the way to Nebraska from Washington (state) after his brother passed away – he’s super proud of it
- I am pretty sure this is a tick – so I disagree with Mindy (my sister’s partner) that we were not in danger of getting ticks on Dad’s “ranch”
- Dad’s berm – he is also super proud of this (I had honestly never heard of a berm until Dad had one – apparently it’s a raised bit of land, who knew?)
- Dad’s business – though he’s retired, he has a shop, with business hours (as well as a “ranch” and rental properties)… so I don’t think he’s really retired
- The corn box inside Dad’s shop – why would great grandchildren want a sandbox when they can have a CORN box???
- My “new” car – Dad shined it up so pretty for me!
- Me and a friend from high school
I love your blog, Lynette!
Now serving whiskey! Ha!!
Congrats on the new car. =)
Very nice montage Lynette! Your dad was brave to drive that tractor all that way!
