I drove back to Greeley over the holiday weekend to spend time with family. My boyfriend was kind enough to go with me, to keep me company on the ten hour drive each way. This was the first time Kirk met any of my family. He seems to have survived with minimal post-traumatic stress disorder. In fact, I think he fared better than I did.
I saw some of my loyal and some of my not-so-loyal readers Friday night at a local bar, and Saturday evening at church. I appreciate all the kind words regarding my column, and I told my critics: “Write a letter to the editor”. Kirk went four-wheeling with the guys while I stayed home with the women, avoiding getting dirty and sweaty. Kirk was also corralled into helping erect a storage shed.
Some of you may heard my screaming Saturday night as I watched the Stanley Cup playoffs. (Go Blackhawks!) I apologize for my language. It was a real nail-biter!
We left Sunday and spent Sunday night and Monday in Iowa with my college friend and her husband. We had a lovely time, doing some window shopping and playing the board game “Killer Bunnies.” Even from Iowa, you may have heard my screaming Monday night while watching the hockey game. At least I was more careful about the language.
The Chicago Blackhawks took home the Stanley Cup for the first time in over 40 years. It was obviously all Chicagoans could talk about – for a few days, anyway. Now the city’s attention has turned to the two big corruption trials going on. Ex-governor Blah… Bleh.. Bloggywitch is on trial, of course. We’ll see if his declarations of innocence and appearances on shows such as “The Apprentice” with Donald Trump will help his case. According to his attorney, he’s not corrupt, he’s just not bright. We’ll see if the jury agrees.
Also on trial is former police commander Burge. Burge is accused of perjury – lying about his lack of knowledge of police torturing suspects to obtain confessions. Maybe he’s just not that bright either.
Speaking of not so sharp, I don’t succumb to the school of thought that you’re more likely to cut yourself with a dull knife than you are a sharp one. I bought two new knives a while back. I was chopping a honeydew the other day and the knife went right through the rind into my finger. I don’t think my old dull knife could have done that. The first time I used my new knives, I cut something (carefully), washed the knife, and put it in the dish drainer. Then I reached into the drainer for a bowl and cut myself.
Not to say I can’t cut myself with duller objects – I’ve managed to slice a finger open with a plastic knife and countless sheets of paper. I still think I’m more likely to do damage with a sharp knife.
Another thing I don’t understand – full length mirrors. Full length mirrors are only about 4 feet tall. Who can actually see their entire self in a mirror only four feet tall? What frustrates me even more is that they seem only about 8 inches wide. I don’t know about you, but I am most DEFINITELY wider than your typical full-length mirror.
So, my wider-than-mirror self is back in Chicago and musing randomly at life and waiting months for hockey season to begin again. By the way, if you’re interested in reading more or seeing photos, you can visit my blog at meowmeowmom.wordpress.com.
