I figured it’s about time to give an update on the dating situation. Honestly, I didn’t even THINK about Valentine’s Day when I decided that. I’m not much of a romantic, if I’m any sort of romantic at all. In spite of that, the dating situation is going pretty well, I think.

My boyfriend is pretty awesome. Now I’ve been on my own for a LONG time, and it’s been an adjustment to be in a relationship. It’s not an adjustment I’ve made easily – not one I’ve finished making at all. In many ways, we’re different species.  I’m a vegetarian and he’s a carnivore. He’s nocturnal, I start fading around 9 p.m. I admit, I get annoyed when

  • he lives the toilet seat up or a closet door open, or
  • he’s running late, or
  • he buys a new TV and decides to keep BOTH the new TV and old TV in the same room so we can watch two TVs at the same time, or
  • he doesn’t read my mind and take the trash out for me, or
  • I’m waiting outside a store for him to pull the car around, only to discover he’s gone back inside and is chatting with an ex-coworker.

In my attempts to lose weight last year, I discovered it was FAT that aggravated my digestive disorders.  So, I need to stick to a low-fat diet or I suffer the consequences.  It was my birthday recently – and as cheesecake is one of the things I miss a LOT – I decided to try to come up with a low-fat version I could eat without getting ill.

Inspired partly by my friend Mary’s “chocolate eclair cake” and partly by Keebler’s “double chocolate pudding pie”, here’s what I did.

Hockey vs well, everything else

I went to a Chicago Wolves game with my friend Amy this weekend.  The Chicago Wolves are the local AHL (American Hockey League) team.  The AHL isn’t as well-known as the NHL (National Hockey League), which includes teams like the Chicago Blackhawks.  However, it’s still a lot of fun to go to a game – it is hockey, after all!

I don’t consider myself much of a sports buff.  I certainly can’t play sports, due to my absolute lack of any athletic ability.  I do love to watch hockey!  I was excited to find fellow “crazy cat lady” Amy, who I knew through volunteering at a local cat shelter, was a hockey fan as well.

Hockey is the absolute best sport ever.  I don’t see how there can be any debate about it.  I can tolerate watching football – but there’s no sport that I enjoy watching as much as ice hockey.

Fugly fashion

I went to PayHalf recently. My friend Merril introduced me to PayHalf, and while the clothes are definitely geared toward girls less than half my age, the deals are INCREDIBLE and I find it a great place to stock up on t-shirts, etc. I managed to spend over $120 at PayHalf on this particular trip. Do you have ANY idea how difficult it is to spend that much there, when long-sleeved t-shirts can be had for $5?

My most expensive purchase was $11. It was a hooded sweater. It was a rather UGLY hooded sweater, but I saw it and thought it’d be the perfect warm sweater for those cold winter days where I want to throw something on while I sit at home on the computer or playing with yarn.

The sweater has grown on me, though, and now I’m actually liking it. It’s SO ugly, I think it’s gone beyond just ugly to FUGLY and therefore interesting and FUN!

I found out about the super-secret city of Chicago’s property tax relief program from a story on Chicago’s public radio.  (Thank you, WBEZ!)
