Fully caffeinated

December 10, 2009 by Lynette

Thanksgiving has come and gone. I love Thanksgiving. In fact, I think it’s my favorite holiday. There’s no obligation to purchase gifts, hide things, or even decorate our homes. Thanksgiving is just a day to sit back, pause, and be grateful for the good in our lives.

Among the many things I’m thankful for – COFFEE. I LOVE coffee! I appreciate caffeine in many forms – tea, soda, chocolate, etc. – but I LOVE my coffee. I can’t think of a better way to start the day than a huge (I mean HUGE) mug of hot coffee with milk and sugar-free syrup.

I’m currently on a Starbucks cutback. We all have to make some sacrifices in this economy, and one of mine is foregoing my daily stop at Starbucks for a “Café Misto” (coffee with milk) with sugar-free syrup. It’s been tough. Every day on my way to work, I walk past at LEAST two Starbucks – one is right in the lobby of our office building. They call to me, beckoning me with their espresso, coffee, and decadent pastry treats. But I’ve resisted for two weeks now.

I‘m reading a book on relaxation techniques. The author mentioned two of his clients stopped having anxiety attacks completely once they eliminated caffeine. Well, I want to know how many of his clients HAD anxiety attacks simply at the SUGGESTION they eliminate caffeine? I know I nearly did!

I NEED my coffee to survive, I’m fairly certain. I’m cutting back on Starbucks, it’s true, but I’m still having my HUGE mug of coffee at home. I recently found a new coffee at my favorite grocery store, Trader Joes. It’s called “Wintry Blend” and has cinnamon and cloves added. I would happily drown in a vat of this coffee. I’m definitely thankful.

Submitted for publication in The Greeley Citizen.

I’m a coffee whore. I think quit drinking coffee is harder than quit smoking! When weather is warmer do try Intelligentsia (between Wabash & Michigan; crossing street is Michigan). Latte there is to die for- with whole milk; not skim nor soy. I also love Mountain Blend. Instant coffee but very flavorful. It can be found in Jewel.

LOL at “coffee whore”! You are such a sweet little thing, it totally surprises me to find out you’re a caffeine addict!
