My parents have been very supportive of my writing efforts. They give me lots of suggestions and feedback. This week, Dad recommended I write about sports. Greeley is certainly full of sports fans. Chicago is certainly full of sports teams.
The Chicago Blackhawks hockey team made the NHL playoffs this year. That’s pretty exciting! I love hockey. It’s full of action, inside and outside the rink. I admit I haven’t followed it much in recent years. I’ve been busy and haven’t made the time. A few years ago, I attended several games and followed the Hawks closely. I still have my Hawks jersey hanging in my closet.
The Chicago Bulls basketball team is in the NBA playoffs. Good for them. That’s about all I have to say on that subject, I’m not much of a basketball fan. When I worked in consulting, I’d often attend basketball games with our clients. My coworkers hated that I got to go. I didn’t want to go. I didn’t care. While others clamored for the chance to see the Bulls in action, I sighed and lamented that I had to go again – though I have to say, the food available is amazing! When you sit in the fancy sky boxes, they bring you all kinds of appetizers and entrees and desserts. I highly recommend it. Much better than one of the hot dogs served at the little booths. I don’t think they even have scotcheroos! You know, in spite of the Hawks games being held in the same center as the Bulls games – I don’t recall ever eating, even seeing food, at a Hawks game. I guess there wasn’t time.
The White Sox and Cubs have started playing baseball. No, I’m not a baseball fan either. I lived only a block from Wrigley Field for a few years – it was miserable. I’d just want to go home from work, get off the train and the streets and sidewalks would be PACKED with fans, many drunk, many wondering if the game was over and whether we’d won. Some of these lovely fans used my building’s back door as a urinal – which didn’t endear them to me any further. I’ve attended games for both baseball teams, and well, I enjoyed the sunshine. The food at the Sox games is pretty good.
There’s also the Chicago Fire soccer team, and the Wolves hockey team. I don’t have a clue how they’re doing, and don’t care. The Bears football team is done for the season (busy drafting now) – and I’m sure there are other teams that exist I’m not even aware of. Those are just the professional teams – there are also college teams, high school teams, bowling teams, if there’s a sport I’m sure it’s represented.
Well, in spite of my dad’s encouragement, I don’t think I’m much of a sports reporter. Perhaps I should stick with what I know – like food.
