Root of the problem

January 3, 2009 by Lynette

I faced this morning with dread.  My dentist had referred me to an endodontist to evaluate a tooth that was particularly sensitive.  Now, all my teeth are sensitive – I have a tendency to clench my jaw and grind my teeth and if I could go back in time I’d tell myself to start wearing a night guard MUCH sooner than I did.

I have to say, this endodontist was AWESOME.  She was so kind and understanding.  I am a huge baby when it comes to my teeth, and I really don’t think they should blame me.  How would they feel if I said “Okay, I’m just going to take this sharp pointed metal dental tool and stab you in the thigh, and you tell me if it hurts?  I KNOW it will hurt – the only question is WHEN.

Anyway, the endodontist was great, and I got through the tapping and the biting down hard and even the dreaded cold test.  I don’t need a root canal – I need TWO root canals.  Fortunately, I have a flexible savings account at work – but still, $1350 each tooth… $2700 total, that’s $200 per month.  OUCH.
